Darryl is a Registered Architect who has been practicing for nearly 35 years in London and New Zealand.  Darryl brings a unique set of skills to each project; he is also a qualified engineer and a Certified Passive House (Passivhaus) Designer so he brings his creative skills as an architect and his technical skills as an engineer and energy modeller to all our projects, creating inspiring designs that perform very well.

He is a highly experienced Director and Team Leader with extensive experience in design, organisational and technical delivery of projects including commercial and residential developments.

Hi, I’m Darryl.  I am a keen advocate for a whole-food plant-based way of life.  Emphasis on fresh, whole ingredients and minimising processed food is an important aspect for maintaining overall wellness.  I love spending time with family, travelling and occasionally snow skiing – preferably all at once.  I have been a long time Sci Fi fan and collector of Star Wars, Star Trek, Thunderbirds and Dr Who memorabilia, some of which are displayed in our office.  I also enjoy singing Bass with a community choir.

Alya acknowledges that all buildings ought to embody an ecological and bioclimatic response to their immediate environment. Her flare and fresh thinking compliments the team at Sang Architects to engage in their ecologically driven approach to architecture.

Shashi Rafique

B.Arch

Shashi is a Registered Architect from India. Her interest lies in bringing about a balance between architecture and landscape design to create self-sustaining spaces. She takes a keen interest in exploring the green side of design and incorporating it in both architectural as well as interior design projects.

She has worked on projects of varying scales in architectural, landscape and interior design ranging from residential, educational, retail, commercial, corporate interior design and mixed-use projects. She believes that good design and good relationships come from good collaboration between client and the architect but also the trade services.

She has a great interest in Passivhaus design and its building process.

Mei Ling Lee

MFA BFA Dip Des

Mei Ling has a mixed set of skills that she brings to each project. She is an Interior Designer, an award winning book designer, model maker and practicing Artist. She brings an experienced eye and imaginative rigour to every project she works on. Her kitchen design has been a finalist at the TIDA design awards.

Her Master’s thesis, ‘The House in the World and the World in the House’, explores ideas of place and its relationship to the sense of self and its opposite, displacement. The project consists of installation and mixed media works that explore a sense of place and belonging from the micro environment of the home to the macro view of the world. The house is seen as a 3D structure in space whereas the home is intangible and has at its core, ideas of stability, identity and memory. A sense of belonging is explored by using the potential of the globe as a form, to convey ideas of the home in relation to the broader social context, that is the house is a world in itself.

Hi, I am Mei Ling. On weekends, you will find me in my art studio or Urban Sketching. I have a fondness for good food, making kimchi and playing with Maple the dog (see below). My recent proud moment was singing in a choir, at the magnificent Holy Trinity Cathedral.

I am a keen advocate to have everyone living in healthy homes.

Maple’s calming presence is very much appreciated by our team and visitors to the office.  She is often found performing her duties snuggled on our laps, sleeping in her basket under our desks or greeting new friends at reception.

What started as an investigation into finding a sense of belonging out in the world has led to an introspective inquiry into recognition and validation of each individual’s lived reality. With a keen eye for observation, Mei Ling invite us to contemplate an individual’s lived experiences using a unique collection of art objects that speak to the essence of individual identity and the power of personal story telling. She offers an interactive experience in which the viewer is compelled to ponder possibilities that are likely reflections of their own experiences.

Mei Ling believes in the transformative power of empathy and understanding in fostering a more inclusive world.
